Kiehl's Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream review

Firstly let me apologise for lack of posts on here of late. I have recently qualified as an eyelash extensionist and to say I am busy would be an understatement. But it's all going in the right direction for me so my dream of working in the beauty industry is slowing starting to become a reality.

Anyway enough of that :) onto the review. I was recently sent this BB cream to review and I am really really wanting to love BB creams so far it just hasn't happened.

Kiehl's is a brand that I don't really know that well but deffo a brand I want to get to know. As I get older I find my skin care needs are constantly changing and for years I got away with not looking after my skin this is not the case anymore. When I read the press release for this BB cream I was dying to get my hands on it. One of the major selling points for me was that it wears and hydrates all day something my skin deffo needs right now (I have such dry skin of late). I find that although the colour I got is the darkest of the range, once blended into my skin it did in fact match which was a bonus. This formula is very light and not at all greasy but for me the off putting thing is the smell of it, kind of reminds me a tad bit of fake tan? But this wouldn't be enough to put me off it. Its light coverage but does cover blemishes, but I wouldn't be confident to wear this if I had a breakout but that's just me...... I am like that about all make up when I have a breakout (has to be high coverage or I won’t leave the house).

I love that this product has an SPF of 50! The amount of people who look for products with this high factor is huge, it’s great to see that people are looking after their skin.

So the nitty gritty.

What Keihls say:
Kiehl’s is pleased to present its first BB cream, offering immediate natural-looking coverage and longer term clinically-demonstrated skin tone correction.

In a consumer study, after application, immediate results included:

·         Instantly conceals flaws and blemishes while providing a natural, nude finish

·         Leaves skin looking naturally luminous

·         Provides a poreless finish

·         Conceals fine lines and wrinkles

·         Has a lightweight feel and texture on skin

·         Does not feel greasy on skin

·         Does not look “cakey” and provides buildable coverage

·         Skin appears more youthful

After consumer trials, respondents agreed that:

·         It wears and hydrates all day (8 hours)

·         Maintains even skin tone throughout the day

·         Color stays true all day

After as little as 4 weeks (evaluation on bare face), clinical results showed significant skin tone correction:

·         35% improvement in skin brightness / radiance

·         32% improvement in the appearance of skin smoothness

·         18% reduction in the overall appearance of imperfections

·         28% improvement in overall skin appearance

·         26% improvement in skin hydration

In a consumer study, after 4 weeks:

·         79% saw a reduction in the appearance of dark spots

·         88% saw visibly more even skin tone

·         85% saw a diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

·         90% saw brighter, more radiant, more luminous skin

·         90% felt their skin appeared healthier
Formulated with sensitive skins in mind, yet effective for all skin types, Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50/PA +++ is available in 3 shades – fair, light, natural. It offers instantly even skin tone coverage, true color hues and hydration all day.

All three shades are:

Fragrance free + Paraben free + Mineral oil free

Dermatologist and allergy tested for sensitive skin

                                      Non-comedogenic – won’t clog pores

What I say:

I have been using this on and off for the past few weeks and I do find that My skin does feel healthier, I'm not too sure about the skin tone but I have noticed a difference in my under eye circles which for me is a huge thing (I hate my circles). But again for me BB creams, although I adore what they have to offer they will just never have the coverage I long for. I am using this BB cream under my foundation for work but alone in the evenings and at weekends and along with concealer and my normal day to day make up I can just about make this work for me. It will deffo be taken on holidays with me and I will continue to use it and will purchase in the future, Personally I'm just not confident enough with my skin to wear it alone or any other BB cream for that matter. For those of you looking for a replacement for your tinted moisturiser (you lucky people) I would highly recommend this one to you.

Kiehl's Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream is available now from Kiehls counters in Wicklow Street, Dundrum Town Centre and Arnotts and retails for €29. Which for a brand like Keihls and the spf factor to me seems very reasonable.

Have you guys any other Keihls products you could recommend for me?

Battle of the BB Creams

This was a requested post over on my facebook page. I'm a full coverage kind of gal so I didn’t have high hopes for these BB creams.

BB creams have been huge in Asia for years now and the ones we have are more like the cousins of the ones available in Asia. In Asia they are mainly used to whiten the skin. Something ladies in Ireland might not need. I'll let you look at this Link here to get all the nitty gritty on them.  BB creams claim to be multi-tasking, from illuminating to anti-wrinkle to covering blemishes and scars. They can be worn alone as a tinted moisturiser or underneath your usual foundation depending on what coverage you like yourself. So I picked myself up 3 all mid price range and all available in Boots to give them ago and let you guys know how I got on with them.

L’Oreal Paris - Nude Magique BB Cream.  €15.49

  • Flawless Coverage
  • Perfectly even skin texture
  •  Fresh dewy glow
  • 24Hr Hydration
  • Protects with SPF 12

This is a 5-in-1 BB cream, bare skin beautifier which mimics the texture and glow of perfect bare skin.  The shade I got was light skin tone. When I squeezed this onto the back of my hand I was a bit taken back by the appearance, it’s white with what look like grains of sand in it.  Strange!I then read the packaging to be told these are “smart pigment capsules”....ahha....  Anyway once you blend it into the skin it blends into a flesh tone colour. I am not the palest of skin tones, I’m normally the 2nd shade in a range, this to me wasn’t light enough for my skin tone, so I had to add some bronzer to my neck and décolletage area to match it up.  Coverage was very light I needed to add concealer to my under eye area too. For me it didn’t have enough coverage to wear on its own which is a personal choice, like I have said already I am a full coverage person. I didn’t feel like my skin was hydrated or dewy. Can’t say I loved it, it was my least favourite of the three, especially as the colour was too dark anyway! I would say that none of the 5 claims above where true for me.

Garnier Skin Naturals BB Cream Skin Perfector €15.24

  •  Evens tone and boosts glow
  • Blurs imperfections
  • Smoothes fine lines
  •  24hr hydration
  • Spf 15 UV protection
This is an all-in-one BB Cream. I also got this in the light shade although still not very pale it was slightly paler than the L’Oreal one. This one smells lovely and does leave you skin looking dewy and glowing and your skin definitely feels hydrated.  Again the coverage with this one wasn’t up to my standards but felt better than the L’Oreal one, needing less concealing and faffing around with other products.  I think I would be happy to use this on holidays when you feel that you need something on your skin but not necessarily foundation.  I’d also consider using this as a primer for my foundation as I have dry skin and like full coverage this could be an alternative use for this for me. I would say I only like it.  But if you have good skin anyway this would be a great alternative to foundation for you.

Rimmel London BB Cream €8.95

  • Primes
  • Moisturises
  • Minimises pores
  • Conceals
  • Covers
  • Smoothes
  • Mattifies
  • Brightens
  • Helps protect
This is a 9-in1 BB Cream although I think a couple of the points are the same thing lol, with SPF of 25 fantastic!!! My shade again was light. This one was the cheapest of all 3 and my overall favourite.  Smells fresh, leaves your skin looking dewy but not shiny and the coverage was the best of all 3 too.  I actually wore this to work that’s how impressed I was with the coverage. With an SPF of 25 would be fantastic for sun holidays to wear by the pool for anyone who likes that kind of thing. Would be great for just throwing on if you were heading to the shops or on a school run.  And with a great price tag too I would have no problems recommending this one.

So that’s it ladies, that’s my low down on BB Creams.

Do keep in mind that I love full coverage and I would never just wear atinted moisturiser on its own, so my favourite is based on that. And I do have dry skin too. I would say if you’re more oily skin side the Rimmel one would probably be best for you as the Garnier one might be too dewy.
Anyone any favourite BB creams?
